Trosvik to build the next two Reach Remote vessels!

“Congratulations everyone!” It was a particularly cheerful and enthusiastic CEO, Jan Brønsten, who announced at an all-hands meeting this week that Trosvik employees had secured contracts for the next two USV ships in the Reach Remote fleet. The client is Kongsberg Maritime, and the end customer is the Haugesund-based shipping company Reach Subsea. “These unique newbuild projects provide Trosvik with extremely important expertise and – not least – a solid base turnover for the next two years,” he said.

Trosvik also built the first two Reach Remote vessels. The new ships will be delivered in the second and third quarters of 2027, respectively. Brønsten does not hide the fact that the past year has been challenging in terms of orders, and that this exciting new contract is therefore particularly welcome.

World-leading ship technology

Kongsberg Maritime is a leading innovator in the development of remote-controlled and autonomous technology. The unique unmanned surface vessels (USVs) in the Reach Remote fleet are equipped with some of the most advanced autonomous technology available. The contracts for the two new ships therefore represent another important milestone for Kongsberg and reinforce its position as a leading total supplier of remote-controlled and unmanned surface vessels and ROV operations.

Unmanned inspection vessels

The unmanned vessels will be used for subsea inspections and smaller underwater operations using ROVs (remotely operated vehicles). They will also serve as mobile energy banks, data centers, and communication modules for remote-controlled underwater vehicles (ROVs), where both the ROV and USV will be operated from land-based control centers. The vessels will be capable of both manual and autonomous operations, as well as a combination of the two.

Built in cooperation with Polish shipyard

The two new USVs will be outfitted and delivered by Trosvik Group AS in Brevik. The hulls will be built in close cooperation with the Polish shipyard FINOMAR Spolka zo.o in Szczecin. For Trosvik, Geir Sæther will lead the project together with André Solum. The latter will have primary responsibility for cooperation with the Polish shipyard, explains CEO Jan Brønsten.

“We see it as a very welcome vote of confidence that Kongsberg and Reach Subsea have chosen Trosvik to build the next two vessels in the fleet. This project gives us an opportunity to further develop our unique expertise in highly technical and advanced ship types, and it provides a strong foundation for Trosvik’s continued growth.”
